St. Andrew’s is a spiritual family, spreading God’s love through acts of kindness, hospitality and mutual support. We support one another both in times of need and times of celebration. Making the membership commitment is a way of more fully giving of yourself to that spiritual family.
St. Andrew’s is a leading voice for Progressive Christianity in Central Texas with increasing influence throughout the state and across the country. There are exciting possibilities ahead of us and you can more fully help shape and direct our future course.
While we spend a very limited time each year on the actual voting process, the Presbyterian system of representative democracy, where the members govern the church, is fairly unique. Through this system, St. Andrew’s has a significant voice in the Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly where we can be advocates for issues that are important to us. Increasing membership numbers gives us greater influence. But, you have to be a member to participate in this process, and your membership increases our voice in Presbyterian systems.
The foundation for Progressive Christianity is the Right of Conscience. The Right of Conscience means we are guided by God and Scripture alone, not by dictates of people, a board or a rigid set of rules. The Right of Conscience, however, must be tenaciously guarded and vigorously defended for it allows us to spread God’s love guided only by God, Scripture and our conscience. The Right of Conscience is central to the Presbyterian system and goes back to the Westminster Confession in 1647. Membership allows you to more fully support the Presbyterian system.
Kahlil Gibran said “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.” Becoming a member is a great way of coming in off the sidelines and giving more of yourself to St. Andrew’s.
Someone said, “you don’t have to go it alone.” No you do not. Become a greater part of the St. Andrew’s spiritual family by joining.
